North Mountain Pony Club
Welcome to our site. We are a part of the United States Pony
Clubs, Inc., an educational program for youth to learn horseback riding, mounted
sports and the care of horses and ponies, thereby developing responsibility,
moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence.
We are located in the
Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and have members from Winchester,
Berryville and the surrounding counties, including West Virginia. We meet
regularly for riding lessons and ground school (during the winter months) to
continue the educational experience. Our emphasis is on enjoyment of horses
through proper riding techniques and knowledge, giving each child the ability to
problem solve to correct and recognize the needs of their horse or pony.
We actively participate in many of the USPC rallies and our members
enjoy the friendships that develop during these times. We also hold or
participate in week long camps during the summer. The emphasis in these camps
and in our lessons is on dressage, show jumping, and cross country riding. Our
club also organizes and runs one rally each year, the Quiz Rally, which is an
unmounted, hands on event held during the the winter. At Quiz, members compete
in knowledge of all aspects of riding, horse conformation, veterinary and
nutritional horse care. This year 144 Virginia region members competed for
ribbons and the chance to compete at the regional and national levels.
Our
members are encouraged to continue in their advancement as riders through lessons
and studies to move up through the rating levels of pony club. As members increase
in their proficiency, so do the opportunities to participate in other Pony Club offerings
such as international exchanges, National Youth Congress and chances for several scholarship
awards available to high school seniors. For more information on these opportunities and
